Art therapy (Latin ars - art, Greek therapeia - therapy, treatment) is a method of treatment with the help of artistic creativity. Art therapy is one of the most popular areas of psychotherapy. The popularity of art therapy methods is due to the softness, but at the same time high efficiency, breadth of application and relative short duration.
It is very important to note that this technique has no contraindications and limitations. It is used in almost all areas of psychotherapy. It has also found a fairly wide application in pedagogy, social work and even business. Art therapy gives any person the opportunity to express their inner world through creativity.
Art therapy works effectively in counseling and therapy for both adults, children and adolescents. It is obvious that “treatment by art” appeared at the same time as art itself. At all times and among all peoples, music, singing, dance, drawing, sculpture, theater and rituals, mysteries and much more have been used as a “means of healing” for various diseases and conditions. If we trace the development of various variants of folk healing, then all of them, without exception, contain elements of art therapy. For many people, folk art (needlework and crafts) is still a factor in maintaining peace of mind and health.

Art therapy turned out to be a whole world for me to dive into in my free time and where I can find resources to move forward. Through color, form and way of depiction, you immerse yourself in the paintings of artists, empathize with them, better understand the world of art, all the stages that it has gone through in a long history, and how you yourself went through them in your life.
The scope of my professional activity at the time of training was connected with young children: an important task for me was to introduce them to new materials and ways of depicting: after all, you can draw not only with paints or pencils, but it can also be coals, and herbs, and spices, and sand, and rice, and semolina. It happened that we poured a little milk into a plate, diluted watercolor paint with water, and painted on milk: “Look, it’s like there are clouds in the sky!”. How many fantasies, drawings fit in a saucer, and one drawing flowed into another. But you can also read a story or listen to music, and then draw it, move from one modality to another.
In the process of counseling, art techniques are also good: you don’t need to talk much, but there is a way to quickly get into the unconscious and find a solution to the problem at a deep level, and after a while you realize that the problem is solved at different levels by itself, through a web of events and situations associated with it . It is very important to see these changes within yourself and in those with whom you work.
There are a lot of plans ahead and Art Therapy will definitely come in handy in achieving them!

She also completed the Certification Program in Integrative Art Therapy (2015-2017) in Bishkek and this is what she says about her experience in this method.
My close acquaintance with art therapy began in 2015. This direction of psychology attracted me because it combines two strong components at once: "art" - art and "therapy" - healing.
In art therapy, the very process of creativity (drawing, modeling, appliqué, etc.) is healing. It can relieve tension (mental, emotional and physical fatigue), tone up, inspire, motivate.
Art therapy techniques are soft but complex. The effect of the exercises manifests itself gradually: it begins in the process of the work itself and continues for some time after it.
As part of the Pro Platform Saturday art therapy workshop, I held several master classes. These were techniques related to the topics of "Masks", "Mandala", which allowed the participants to be with their inner feelings, creative resources, take a fresh look at themselves, create new goals.
On the basis of the Cultura Nomada center, meetings were held “Find the door of your heart. Art therapy as a way to your own uniqueness and vitality”; “Breath of change. How to restore the lost taste for life. Participants got the opportunity to get in touch with their inner space and their inner essence through creativity, got a valuable personal experience for later use in everyday life.
I took part in the first Art Therapy Festival with a master class "Art Therapy as Meditation: Fractal Drawing". With the help of fractal drawing, one can pave the way to a more refined, more harmonious, more heartfelt, less mental, more resourceful, more spontaneous and intuitive state.
Meetings "Women's Mandala", "Self-Portrait", "Intuitive Drawing" were held on the basis of AUCA. Participants received tips from their inner world on self-development and self-awareness.
Took part in the project "Life with Meaning". The techniques "Self-portrait", "My resources" were used, which imply an inner vision of opportunities for transformation and obtaining resources, the courage to seek one's own nature and uniqueness.

About my experience of training in the certification program in integrative art therapy and about the place the art method currently occupies in practice.
To be honest, I did not seriously think about art therapy, and even more so, about getting certified in it. This was due to the fact that I draw quite badly and am not very fond of drawing. The organizers convinced me that this is not the most important thing. I made up my mind and my psychotherapeutic world, already established, no, did not collapse, rather blossomed with colors😀My stereotypes about art collapsed.
Firstly, as it turned out, I do not need to be able to draw professionally, there are no requirements for drawing skills at all, which made me very relaxed (and many of my clients to whom I offered art therapy techniques, too 🙂)
Secondly, art therapy is not only drawing, but also working with sand, collages, you can shoot a cartoon, or you can arrange a whole theatrical performance! Everyone can find here something of their own, close in spirit.
Thirdly, art therapy has a unique combination of depth of immersion in oneself and softness, accuracy, and care.
Fourth, I am still amazed and delighted by the breadth of possibilities that opens up for a therapist when he is looking for the most appropriate working techniques for the client's request. This is work with trauma, and with addictions, with finances and the search for one's destiny, with family attitudes and .... and .... and ....
Fifthly, art therapy combines the possibilities of diagnostics and correction, which is simply priceless for practicing psychologists.
For me personally, art therapy has become a big step in self-discovery and professional growth, I get great pleasure accompanying the art process in the Art Therapy Workshop and in personal therapy with clients. And the growth in the number of my clients suggests that they also like this art process😂😂😂

Art therapy is my great love.
To date, art therapy has firmly established itself in my practice. I don't know of a more environmentally friendly method of deep work. Every time I am surprised how it is possible to solve the most complex psychotherapeutic problems so carefully, with seeming ease. Where months of work with verbal psychotherapy are needed, with the help of art you can do it in three or four meetings. The most unique thing is that the changes that occur at a deep unconscious level are very soon realized by the client.
Art therapy is full of discoveries, creativity, both for the client and the therapist. The very creativity that makes me constantly look for something different for each client. This is how new exercises, new techniques are born.
One of my clients said a wonderful phrase: "who would have thought that stupid pictures help so much."
It helps the creative process, to go through difficulties, crisis, to gain new experience.
I love art therapy for its versatility, for the possibility of using the huge cultural baggage of mankind, because it is not only drawing, it is also reading books, watching movies.
My certification program ended, but my deep immersion in art, my exploration of myself and the surrounding space did not end.
Passing a specialization in art therapy, my main occupation was the sphere of HR. It was possible to fully use new knowledge by applying a non-standard approach to the profession and art therapy.
Then I was lucky enough to get on maternity leave, in which art therapy played an important role in practicing various techniques on myself. Having understood and felt all the subtleties, the idea came up to share this and create a course on art therapy for pregnant women, which I am now actively involved in.
